Bonbu Stories & The Lantern Song Workshop

TSDBT in partnership with the BCA Music Committee and BCA Dharma Forward is excited to welcome Bonbu Stories to Denver to join in our Eitaikyo service and offer the Lantern Song Workshop to the TSDBT community on Sunday, November 16, 2025.

Eitaikyo is the “perpetual chanting of sutras” service. Temples establish Eitaikyo Funds which are used to support the temples in emergency situations. The act of chanting connects us to all beings, past, present and future and so we chant to express gratitude to all those who have helped/continue to help/and will help in the future to support the temples. We are reminded that we are the link to the future, and our giving perpetuates the spreading of the dharma and the continuation of our temple.

Bonbu Stories is an Asian American artist collective made up of five artists from across California. They were commissioned by the BCA Music Committee to write a a new for the Obon Festival celebrating the Buddhist Churches of America’s (BCA) 125th anniversary, and they are coming to share the song and dance with the Colorado community. Rev. Sydney Shiroyama, a member of Bonbu Stories, will deliver a Dharma talk during our Eitaikyo Service, and Bonbu Stories will perform. Following service at 11:30am, we will join Bonbu Stories in the gym for a workshop open to all ages during which we will make art, enjoy Bonbu Stories performances, and learn and practice the Lantern Song dance.
